Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity

Think of a Disaster Recovery Plan like an insurance Policy. We all have fire insurance to cover the structure and items inside in the event of a disaster. If the disaster takes down all of your critical systems and data, will you be able to keep your business running or will you close your doors?

We will make sure that you have a recovery plan in place as well as a plan to keep working during recovery. There are many levels of Disaster Recovery planning depending on the size of your company and the criticality of your data. Most companies have some form of backups but no real idea of what will happen in the event of a disaster regarding when things will be restored.

Power Failures, System Crashes, Natural Disasters and Man-made Disasters (such as 9/11) are a few of the things that you need to protect yourself from.

Here are a few of the options that we will consider.

Hot Site Scenario.

This consists of having a backup site ready to go with all critical systems built and data replicated on a real-time or near real time basis. A hot site can generally have your business fully functional in an hour or two. This is certainly the most desirable solution but is often cost prohibitive.

Warm Site Scenario.

This consists of having a backup site ready to go with all critical systems built but no data replication. Data will be transferred to the DR site from backups and will generally have your business fully functional within 24 hours.

Cold Site Scenario. (Most Common for Small to Medium Sized Business)

This consists of having a plan for where to locate the business in the event of a disaster. There is no equipment at the DR site before disaster strikes. Equipment is purchased or rented and installed after the disaster. Applications are then built and data is restored from tape. Depending on what applications you are running, this process can take days to get your business fully functional.

Whichever plan makes sense for your company, we will work with you to ensure that there is a continuity plan in place to keep you productive during the recovery stage.
