Virus - A program or piece of code that is loaded onto your computer without your knowledge and runs against your wishes

Worm - usually used to describe a Virus that sends itself out via E-mail

Trojan - A destructive program that masquerades as a benign application. Unlike viruses, Trojan horses do not replicate themselves but they can be just as destructive.

Adware - Software that a user installs that has advertising built into the program often in the form of Internet Explorer popups.

Spyware - Any software that covertly gathers user information through the user's Internet connection without his or her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes. Spyware applications are typically bundled as a hidden component of freeware or shareware programs that can be downloaded from the Internet; however, it should be noted that the majority of shareware and freeware applications do not come with Spyware

Pop-ups - Ads that pop up when you are browsing a website blocking the window that you are trying to see.  Pop-unders will pop up in the background and be seen when you close the window that you are looking at.
